About

“… You know the feeling you get when you’re sure of what you’re thinking and experiencing,

like walking through a park where you know the trees, or entering a big building knowing exactly which room you are headed to…

Or driving on a road you’ve travelled many times, you easily anticipate the speed for each bend, where to exercise caution…

All these practiced experiences string together in families of thought and emotion, knowledge and feeling brought together as useful tools and systems.

Because our minds have already registered these thoughts, feelings and decisions they’re no longer at the front of our immediate awareness… like a type of autopilot … or dreaming while you’re awake.

Imagine this as it happens in your life…

Now imagine that drive to work and there’s a fallen tree blocking the road, or walking through the park you suddenly notice a mirror-ball hanging from a tree, or you press the lift button at the office, step in, press your floor, but the doors refuse to close…

In these moments we’re surprised to find that some part of the automatic process we’ve depended on does not serve us… and this awareness – bringing us back into the present moment and its new challenges is a tiny awakening from the waking dreams we create to help us function.

You could say that this is just surprise but in these tiny moments we also hesitate and cling to the original process of thought. This interruption to the structure of our feeling forces us to determine alternative solutions, new understandings. The hesitation brings us face to face with some new truth and we’ve got to wake up and deal with it.

HesiTate Scotland wants to engage you in these moments. We want to invite others who may connect with this intention to share their work here and help create a web of ideas and creativity to catch the spirit of change in our country. It’s a space for your voice – and the space between the words.

What are you waiting for?

Are you ready to hesitate Scotland?”
